Oak Street Community Center

About the Center

Opened in May 2023, the Oak Street Community Center is a community partnership between First Universalist and the Alabama Center for Rural Organizing and Systemic Solutions. In addition to housing the Church Office and the Offices of ACROSS, Oak Street Community center is the hub of our Relational Ministries and works to fulfill our mission of creating "life-affirming and resilient community" in Camp Hill by:

  1. Providing free space for community meetings, workshops, and organizing;
  2. Providing free to low-rent workspace for community organizations;
  3. Housing outreach programs of First Universalist and ACROSS such as the Camp Hill Food Pantry and Mary's Community Kitchen.

History of 14 Oak Street

Oak Street Community Center is housed in the historic former parsonage of First Universalist Church which was built at the same time as our Sanctuary. Last used as a parsonage in the 1980s, First Universalist Church decided to stop using the house as a rental property and began the conversion to a Community Center in 2016. Delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, renovations resumed in the spring of 2023 and were delayed again after the major hailstorm that turned Camp Hill upside down, shifting First Universalist volunteers from working on the renovations to working on rebuilding our community. While renovations are ongoing, the Center is open to serve the community both within and outside its walls.
